Dinengdeng Festival

Could you believe it, 101 kinds of dinengdeng (cooked vegetables sauteed with fish sauce and mixed with fried or grilled fish). For those who do not know, Dinengdeng is a famous nutritious Ilocano menu of vegetables cooked in aromatic bagoong (fish sauce) blend with grilled or fried fish.

The town of Agoo, La Union is pilgrimage town of southern La Union celebrate the 7th Dinengdeng Festival  April 26-May 5, 2011 with the simultaneous cooking of dinengdeng prepared by local chefs held on May 1.

The occasion pays tribute to our favorite dinengdeng, a healthy dish and equally famous like the pinakbet. It aims to promote Ilocano culture along this side of town. The festival will also promote health awareness among the residents and visitors and enhanced production of backyard vegetables like squash, eggplant, ampalaya, saluyot, okra, among others.

The simultaneous cooking of dinengdeng at the town plaza coincided with a street dancing participated in by students from different schools. The highlights of the festival is the cooking of dinengdeng on the big cooking pot located at the center of the town, joined with the local officials, educators, students and the rest of Agooenos. Other activities during the festival are the annual street dancing competition, Agoo got Talent, Pammadayaw & Rabii ti Umili, Ms. Agoo and among others.

Dinengdeng Festival is aimed to promote local delicacies, products and honor local chefs who share the Ilocano values in cooking food.
