Naguilian, La Union commemorates the 25th anniversary of the EDSA Prayerful and Peaceful People Power Revolution.
This year’s theme for the EDSA commemoration is “EDSA 25: Pilipino Ako, Ako Ang Lakas ng Pagbabago.”
Based on Proclamation No. 84 dated December 20, 2010, President Benigno S. Aquino III declared the day, which commemorates the Silver Anniversary of the historic EDSA Revolution, as a special holiday only for all of the nation’s schools.
The EDSA Revolution was a series of nonviolent and prayerful mass street demonstrations from Feb. 22 to 25, 1986 which restored and ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country.
It also served as an inspiration for subsequent non-violent demonstrations around the world including those that ended the communist dictatorships of Eastern Europe.
