Last October 21, 2009, the Province of La Union was awarded the prestigious "Most Business-Friendly LGU Award" for Provincial Category Level 1 by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) with the support of the German Technical Cooperation (GTC). Awarded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to Governor Manuel C. Ortega in behalf Congressman Victor Ortega received the award with Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Henry Balbin, Chairman of Trade and Industry.
North Cotabato tied for the award. The province bagged the award for the third time for its aggressive, massive trade, investment and tourism promotion; excellent local governance and quality management; innovative micro-small medium enterprises development; strong developmental partnership with private sector and to top have strong inter-local government relations.
The Awards seek to recognize provinces, cities, and municipalities that demonstrate outstanding efforts in promoting trade and industry, tourism, streamlined business licensing procedures, quality management, investments promotions initiatives through innovation.
